Meet our Directors


Helen MacDonald

Helen MacDonald is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society and Chartered Psychologist. She originally worked as an Educational Psychologist, and then developed expertise in a number of other areas, including Assessment, Behaviour Management, Special Needs, children with English as an additional Language and Child Protection.


She has managed the teaching and support of large numbers of EAL children in a multicultural school, where she also set up a Learning Support Unit for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. She was also Special Needs Coordinator and responsible for Child Protection.   A highlight of her career was visiting India with a small group of teachers, head teachers and advisors as guests of the DAV CMC – a group which manages over 800 educational institutions, rather larger than our MAT! Whilst there the group took part in many conferences and visited over a dozen very diverse schools.


Helen has a strong interest in all aspects of teaching English, and worked for the QCA on the pilot of APP (Assessing Pupil’s Progress). She was also a Senior Marker for English KS2 SATs.


Since retiring she volunteered for several years for HomeStart, which supports vulnerable families with preschool children. She writes an occasional column for the Maidenhead Advertiser and has been a School Governor since 2010 and a Director since the formation of Ashley Hill MAT.

Isabel Cooke

Isabel trained for the Higher Diploma in Education at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesberg, South Africa. She started her career in secondary education, specialising in Home Economics, Physical Science and Mathematics.  In 2000, Isabel transferred to the Nursery and Primary sector before emigrating to the UK and attaining qualified teacher status UK in 2006. 


In September 2005, Isabel was appointed as a class teacher at White Waltham, becoming Assistant Head in 2007 and Head Teacher in 2009.


Isabel has led the transition from Local Authority to Academy school with the conversion of White Waltham in 2012, followed by the forming of a Multi Academy Trust with Knowl Hill C of E Academy in 2014.

She is passionate about ensuring that all children have an opportunity to excel through an environment and school culture that has a thirst for knowledge, and creates opportunities where all are can challenge themselves and develop a life time love of learning.

Cynthia Pitteway

Cynthia Pitteway is a retired Secondary Headteacher who currently chairs the Governing Body at Knowl Hill Academy.


Cynthia has also acted as Chair of Governors at a large Junior School and served as a Governor of a College for Further Education.


During the course of her long career in Education she has served as a Chief Moderator for an Examinations Board, a Threshold Assessment Adviser for teaching staff, an External Adviser for Headteachers and Governors and a consultant for the Slough Education Action Zone.


From 2003-7 she was Lead Member for Education on the Council for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

She is Chair of Hurley Parish Council, a member of the Residents Representation Group at Berkshire College of Agriculture and a Trustee for Knowl Hill Village Hall.

Clive Haines

Clive has been a governor for many years within the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. He also holds the position of Schools Leadership Development Manager within RBWM. He currently trains all governors within maintained schools and Academies and also has a wide skill set that enables him to hold the school to account for the pupils it serves.


Clive have also be accredited as a National Leader in Governance by the National college of Teaching and Learning along with being a Governor Mark assessor nationally.


Clive is passionate about all children being able to learn in a safe environment and being able to ensure they have all the tools they need to develop in their education.

Hilary Hall 


Hilary Hall is Director of Adults, Health and Commissioning for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.  She has over 20 years’ experience in a range of governance, policy and performance roles within local government and specifically within children’s and adult services.


Hilary joined the Royal Borough in 2014, having worked previously at Bracknell Forest Council after relocating from Herefordshire.  Her particular skills are around data, performance analysis and risk management.


In addition to Bisham C of E Academy, Hilary is also Chair of Governors at Riverside Primary and Nursery School in Maidenhead.


Cliff Warne



Andy Eden


Andy is a Certified Accountant and works as Financial Accounting Manager at Dimensions UK..

He was a Foundation Governor at White Waltham Academy for 10 years and has been a Director of the trust since it was set up. Previously he was a governor at Holly Spring School in Bracknell for 11 years. He is also treasurer of White Waltham Church.
